World Mental Health Day: Well-Being in the Workplace

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 each year to encourage mental health awareness, education, and advocacy against social stigma.

This year’s theme is ‘It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,’ which aims to raise awareness around the mental and psychological well-being of people at their workplace. With an estimated 60%* of the global population in some form of employment, addressing mental health at work has become imperative.

Stress, anxiety and burnout can decrease productivity, reduce job satisfaction, and most importantly, affect our overall well-being. Long-term mental health challenges can even manifest as physical symptoms, such as chronic fatigue or illness, making it difficult to maintain a balance between work and personal life.

As a Local 793 member, your Life and Health Benefits Plan covers you and your families with psychological assessments and other services like behavioural therapy and immediate assistance. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of all the services available to members and their loved ones through Members Health, where you can speak confidentially with a doctor at any time.

The Operating Engineers Benefits Administration Corporation (OEBAC) is here to guide your mental health journey.

For a full list of covered mental health services, log in to the Union website and download a copy of your benefits booklet.
